KUALA LUMPUR, July 24 – Teoh Beng Hock’s fiancee Soh Cher Wei, two months pregnant, stepped on the stage at the KL and Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall last night, looking pale but bright eyed.

The crowd packed into the hall leapt to their feet and gave her a standing ovation.

Surrounded by Pakatan Rakyat (PR) leaders on both sides, the 28-year-old looked straight out at the crowd and spoke, in Mandarin, steadily and clearly: “I can do nothing more for Teoh Beng Hock but I’ll take care of his child. Thank you.”

Soh stepped off the stage, head held high, followed by the crowd’s thunderous applause in support of the steadfast school teacher.

By the stage, roses and chrysanthemums were beginning to droop in the heat. Their delicate petals – white and yellow – bruised easily, releasing a sweet, heavy, heady perfume that also smelled a little sickly with the thousands that thronged the hall here last night in memory of Teoh, the DAP political aide who was found dead last week outside the national anti-graft body’s office.

Many who came did not seem to know Teoh personally. When asked, they shook their heads, no.

Why did they come? They came to show they were angry, said those who wore something black – shirts, tee-shirts, blouses, pants, a headscarf.

Because they were sad, said those who dressed in other colours. They came because there were so many questions unanswered.

How could a 30-year-old man who was going to get married die suddenly? Why was he held for so many hours for questioning? Why is the “go’men” always doing this?

Before Teoh’s fiancee took the stage, the master of ceremonies also read out a personal letter she had first dedicated to her dead husband-to-be at his funeral, promising to marry him even if they were now living in separate worlds.

The crowd had earlier listened to the impassioned speeches of the politicians blaming the ruling Barisan Nasional (BN) government.

Many stood up and pumped their fists in agreement, especially when veteran politician Lim Kit Siang called on them to stand up and let the media photographers snap their pictures protesting the Cabinet’s move to hold separately investigations into Teoh’s death and into the way the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) interrogated him.

Lim had earlier mocked the Cabinet decision on Wednesday to let a magistrate’s court carry out an inquest instead of getting the royal commission of inquiry, which they had also agreed to set up soon, to handle everything, from Teoh’s death to possible procedural abuses by the MACC.

He noted that if the people had no confidence in high court judges and federal judges, what more magistrates under pressure from the BN government?

“They are asking for the moon!” he cried, referring to the Cabinet members.

“We must dare to be sad and dare to be angry,” the DAP parliamentary leader said.

“But we must translate our sorrow and anger into People’s Power,” he added.

“Then at the next elections, these people who refuse to listen to the voice of the people to set up a Royal Commission of Inquiry into the death of Teoh Beng Hock will descend into the dustbin of history!” he concluded.

As one, the crowd roared their approval.

    Brave New Malay World
The death of Teoh Beng Huat is not a tragedy to the entire nation. That is a lie. I don’t even know who Teoh is. Yasmin Ahmad death might be. But typical of a lying poof, bapok, Azmi Sharom can twist events to hit out at the morally upright
    Malays. (read straight).

The STAR continues on its Malay bashing using bapoks to become its mouth piece. There is no need for Azmi Sharom to state the obvious. The police will investigate the truth.
There is no RCI to investigate the death of Teoh Benh hock. Whether it is tragic or not depends whether you are a DAP sympathiser or a Chinese racist. The fact is that he might have committed suicide after questioning by MACC on corruption by his boss.
His family and his fiance had all testified he wanted to quit the DAP appointed post long before he was called for questioning. This shows that Teoh was not happy with what he was asked to do and knew it only lead him into trouble.
If not why would Teoh Beng Hock wanted to resign from his job as told by his Chinese family and fiance. Did the MACC hounded him then? Or did he knew what he was doing for his boss was illegal? This is the truth we want to find out. I don’t know what other truth the bapok want to know.

The STAR ie.e MCA delight in running down the very government that they purportly supported by letting their hench man Azmi Sharom wrote “Unfortunately for the nation, faith in the legal system of this country is very low. Therefore, for the sake of answering the many questions surrounding this young man’s death, a body which is outside the system and is trusted to be impartial must be created and left alone to do its job.”
What the hell? The nation faith in the legal system is very high. Notice how the rakyat have accepted the rulings of the Appeal Court in Perak on the Sultan MB choice. Was there any riot? Was there any stone or shoe throwing? None. So how come the STAR choose to publish such untruth and contempt of court opinion?
The majority trust the Government of the day. And at the end of the day, the PM, the Government make the decision as they were appointed by the rakyat.

The STAR continued to insult another government institution the MACC by allowing the bapok whose earlier writings are known to be anti Islam, Malay, straight men, with the following statements.
“But the issue is not simply about fighting corruption, it is about double standards. The victim was a worker for the Selangor Pakatan government. Specifically, he was working for a DAP member of the state legislative body.”
There are huge cases of supposed corruption in Selangor, yet, the MACC or its previous incarnation the ACA has not tackled these cases with even the slightest bit of enthusiasm as they have with the DAP state legislators accused of wrong doing. “
Has he forgotten Azlina investigation and others? Azmi Sharom lies and the MCA repeated his lies against the MACC repeatedly in the STAR.
Another lie by Azmi Sharom is “It is, however, not a racial case. At the small vigil held at the MACC building the day Teoh died, and at the Kelana Jaya rally, not once did anyone mention race.
Not one person accused the MACC of being Malay bigots. It was not mentioned by the speakers or even people in the crowd.”
Teresa Kok has many time said that only the Chinese assemblymen were being investigated by MACC. Oh Azmi Sharom didn’t know that. Teresa Cock is a pure soul untouch by racism. She didn’t said that the newspaper who reported it fabricated.
This prove that Azmi Sharom is tool of DAP Chinese claiming them to be pure souls who never even cross their mind that they are racists. Then with all these lies is it enough for the STAR to put at the end of the article that all the opinions belong these poof.
With friends like the STAR who needs enemies?

People were angry, yes, but they were angry over the consistent attempt by the STAR to denigrate the MACC, the institution of Malaysia which had served us well.
Then Azmi continues his lies without realising what Teresa Kok said about only Chinese assemblymen are investigated, as if they belong to DAP or Chinese they should not be unless equal number of other races are investigated.
UMNO must treat STAR editors with utmost contempt for putting up the drivel from Azmi Sharom week after week in the name of freedom of speech. Lies and drivel are not freedom of speech but must be treated with the utmost contempt that they deserve.
“A young man who wanted to resign from his his cushy political job because he was asked to do illegal things may have committed suicide or killed by the underworld that now haunts the Selangor assembly.
He leaves behind a grieving family, a devastated fiancée and an unborn child and unwed mother who will grow up without a father.
But the death of Teoh Beng Hock is more than just about the death of one man. It is about the corruption in the Selangor Assembly and the role of gangsters in Selangor state government as indicated by Wee. Let s not his death be in vain. The people must know the truth.
May you rest in peace, Beng Hock.
