PAS to hammer out unity dispute

KOTA BAHARU, June 20 — PAS spiritual leader Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat will thrash out his disputes with party president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang and deputy president Nasharuddin Mat Isa on unity talk with Umno on Monday.
PAS Kelantan deputy commissioner III Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah said he hoped the meeting would resolve their differences on the issue.
“Let ‘tok guru’ (Nik Aziz) solve the issue as they will meet upon Hadi’s return on Sunday. They will meet on Monday, so by Tuesday or Wednesday, the dust will settle.
“Let the veterans solve it. Should we interfere when our parents are having a tiff? Both of them are like our father and mother,” he told reporters after opening a seminar on the contribution of Imam Abu Hasan Al-Ash’ari towards the ummah development at Universiti Malaya’s Islamic Studies Academy at Nilam Puri here today.
Nik Abdul Aziz, who is also Kelantan mentri besar, has strongly opposed Abdul Hadi’s proposal that PAS hold a dialogue with Umno on unity government.
The conflict heightened when Nik Abdul Aziz called on Nasharuddin, who is supporting the move, to resign as PAS deputy president and member of parliament for Bachok to join Umno if he persists the unity government agenda.
Mohd Amar said Kelantan PAS was not behind a signature drive and the unfurling of a banner in support of Nik Abdul Aziz. “It could be the work of individuals and PAS Kelantan liaison committee, which met on Thursday, did not bring up the matter,” said Mohd Amar. — Bernama
