And with millions of people in the USenthralled by the 47-year-old’s performance, which is being repeated on prime time American news programmes, there is talk that she will soon appear on the Oprah Winfrey Show.

Ms Boyle, an unemployed church volunteer, wowed judges on the ITV talent show with her rendition of I Dreamed A Dream from the musical Les Miserables.

And after winning over a sceptical audience, she has become a global phenomenon with around 20 million people watching her performance online.

US actress Moore revealed she was moved to tears after seeing it with husband Ashton Kutcher.

He reportedly wrote on Twitter that it “just made my night”. Ghost star Moore replied: “You saw it made me teary!”

Asked what it meant to her to get such support from the celebrity couple, Ms Boyle, from Blackburn in West Lothian, said: “That’s overwhelming. That’s something else.”

Speaking at her home, she appeared unfazed by all the attention. She said: “I just take it all in my stride, I’m enjoying it. I haven’t had time to think!”

And quizzed about her chances of winning, she replied: “I can only do my best, like everybody else.”

The singer, who has only progressed through the first round so far, added that she was “looking forward to seeing the judges again”.

Ms Boyle, who told the talent show she dreams of becoming a singer as successful as Elaine Paige, is now the bookies’ favourite to win the prize – a chance to perform at the Royal Variety Performance.

Show judge Piers Morgan described her rendition as “an incredible performance”, while fellow judge Amanda Holden told her it was a “complete privilege” to listen to her singing.
