The election results are out. Pakatan Rakyat takes Bukit Selambau (Kedah) and Bukit Gantang, despite aggressive campaigning by Tun Dr. Mahathir in Bukit Gantang. Muhiyuddin Yassin as Head of the UMNO-Barisan Nasional campaign suffered his first taste of defeat.

img_1504My thanks to the voters in both constituencies for choosing Pakatan Rakyat. Congrats to Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and his colleagues in Pakatan Rakyat and to the PKR team in Bukit Selambau; and to Datuk Seri Ustaz Abdul Hadi Awang and other PAS leaders and their team of campaign strategists, volunteers, and supporters on their electoral success in Bukit Gantang. Thanks also Lim Kit Siang and Lim Guan Eng of DAP for their cooperation and support.

I also congratulate Datuk Seri Nizar Jamaluddin and Sdr. Manikumar on being elected to serve people of Bukit Gantang and Bukit Selambau. Your hard work starts now.

Batang Ai is a small prize to pay. We in Parti KeADILan Rakyat suffered a minor setback. The Dayak community in Batang Ai has chosen to stick with Barisan Nasional and we respect their decision. I only sincerely hope that they will not regret over the choice of the Barisan Nasional candidate.

However, those in Batang Ai who voted for PKR, our  campaign team and supporters who worked hard deserve our admiration, gratitude and thanks for their effort. PKR and Pakatan Rakyat remain committed to the people of Batang Ai and will stand up for their right to freedom, democracy and justice. —Din Merican
